Gee & Hickton

Gee & Hickton Funeral Directors has assisted families in the Hutt Valley during their time of bereavement since 1946. We have two funeral homes; Cornwall Manor, located on the corner of Knights Road and Cornwall Street, Lower Hutt and Kingswood, located on the corner of King and Cairo Streets, Upper Hutt. Gee & Hickton also own and operate the Akatarawa Crematorium situated in the beautiful Akatarawa Cemetery.

Each venue has a spacious chapel with a warm ambience, seating to accommodate both large and small services, modern multi-media equipment and plenty of off-street parking. Both venues have reception lounges adjoining the chapel which provide an ideal place for gathering and refreshments after a funeral service.

Services.
Our experienced and qualified professionals (both male and female) are able to guide you through the many facets of the grief and funeral experience.  We assist you to make personalised funeral choices suitable for your family, and understand the importance of arranging a funeral that reflects and celebrates the life of your loved one.

Our professional/qualified embalming team (both male and female) pride themselves in taking the utmost respect and dignity with your loved one once in our care. Our state of the art modern mortuary is utilised by the Wellington Institute of Technology as a training facility for students from across New Zealand.

Personalised service sheets and acknowledgement cards can be created and printed on the premises. Our experienced staff can individualise these by scanning coloured or black and white photos, art work or momentoes.

We can assist in writing the newspaper notice for local, national or international newspapers, aid in the selection of the casket (of which we have an extensive range catering for a variety of tastes and budgets) including an eco-friendly option and we can also organise flowers for the casket on your behalf.

During the service images of your loved one can be projected onto a screen at the front of the chapel, incorporating a favourite piece of music.

If at the time of the funeral service family members are unable to attend, audio and video recording facilities are available in the chapel along with live web streaming to enable those family members to view the service. If the service is in an alternative venue we can arrange for a professional to provide this recording service.

Following the funeral service we can assist with the scattering or interment of ashes, organising a headstone or plaque or any type of memorial you fell is appropriate.

Our services are not limited to the Hutt Valley, they extend to the Greater Wellington Region, utlising our member company networks we have extensive experience with national and international repatriation.

Gee and Hickton pride themselves in being members of the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand – FDANZ

Pre-pay and Pre-arranged Funerals.
Pre-arranging a funeral allows you to plan a funeral service in accordance with your wishes. Feedback from our families that have taken the opportunity to pre-arrange a funeral have found that this has assisted immensely at the time of the death having the wishes of their loved one arranged before hand.

A pre-paid funeral can become part of your retirement planning, they are currently exempt from government asset testing for long term residential care, further, our service charges can be inflation-proofed (conditions apply).

Bereavement Support
After the funeral can be a particularly difficult time for bereaved families.  We provide, free of charge, both an opportunity to talk to our professional grief councilor, and or a book to help families understand the effects of grief.
Free seminars and group workshops are organised throughout the year, and we provide a free monthly bus service to Akatarawa Cemetery for Upper Hutt residents.

Funeral Expenses.
At Gee & Hickton it is our policy to complete an estimated breakdown of the costs you are likely to incur for the funeral service, at the end of the arrangement.

After the funeral, the account will be sent to the person taking responsibility for arranging the funeral.  Payment of the account can be made by cheque, eft pos or credit card. Prior arrangement can be made to spread payments of the funeral expenses over a period of time.

While our services have been briefly outlined above, our team would happily come and meet with you personally to discuss your funeral options in detail.
