The Wilson Funeral Home

From its beginnings in 1898, The Wilson Funeral Home has been a family-owned business with strong local roots. Robert H. Wilson, a lighthouse keeper and contractor in Wellington founded the funeral home commencing as an undertaker. Over the years there has been changes of name and owners.

In 1996, we bought the funeral home and changed its name back to The Wilson Funeral Home.

We moved from the corner of John St and Riddiford St in 1999 to our current location at 375 Adelaide Rd.

In 1999 we also opened a new branch in Karori.

We have a modern, purpose built airconditioned chapel on site. It seats 110 - 120 people and has an overflow area for the same number of guests. Along with a full sound system, it has a hearing loop and two screens at the front of the chapel to display photo presentations.

The main focus of the chapel is the huge stained glass windows that depicts what Wellington Harbour and the hills would have looked like from the current site, when The Wilson Funeral Home first began in 1898. It really is beautiful.

We have car parking for approximately 20 cars as well as ample street parking.

Our catering lounge can accommodate up to 150 people and opens up onto a vast deck for people who wish to move outside the building.

We can provide a variety of hearses from a Black 1936 Vintage Packard Hearse, to a White 1989 Rolls Royce, and White Ford Falcoln hearses.

We provide a Family Bereavement Support Service and a counselling referral service.
